Alexander House News – The year in Wimbledon so far

This has been a busy year so far, and it’s only February! Just before the end of last year we had a visit from Santa’s little helper which really made the day for our residents.

We started the year with a bang by lighting fireworks, singing and sharing a drink on New Year’s Eve. It was also Prudence Yate’s 90th birthday so we doubled the celebrations.

In January we held our very first ‘Current Affairs’ session where we discussed the current affairs in the world and shared our opinions and boy, were there a lot of those! It was a huge success and we now hold it every second Wednesday at 11am.

Despite of the weather in mid-January the residents took to our beautiful garden and collected leaves which they used for arts and crafts, showing great teamwork and creativity.

The 25th January brought us ‘Burns Night’ when the residents enjoyed the full Burns Night ceremony with authentic haggis while Scottish bagpipes played. Our Scottish resident Susan Crowe was especially excited and read out the poem ‘Silver Tassie’ by Robert Burns. We finished the night by singing the Robert Burns song ‘Auld Lang Syne.’
