Rose Lawn News – Butterfly Memorial

We have experienced a lot of loss at Rose Lawn recently. We have lost friends who lived here, some residents have lost family and we were discussing how to honour and remember them in some meaningful way.

We have had Oomph Out and About trips to the Butterfly Farm. They sell kits to “grow your own butterflies”. Bev, our Activities Co-ordinator, bought the kit, and we started the project – from larvae to small caterpillars, then to larger caterpillars into their chrysalides. We waited around 3 days until the pods began to shake and beautiful Red Admiral butterflies emerged. They were fed on nectar water and strawberries until they were ready to be let go. We released them into our garden whilst the residents had thoughts and prayers for their loved ones and we remembered our friends.
